Survivor, bodies of two dead in Bulk Jupiter sinking, due on Tuesday
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz on Monday said that the Filipino survivor in the sunken Vietnamese cargo ship should be back in the Philippines by Tuesday.
"Ang latest feedback sa amin, it's either today or tomorrow [ang repatriation]," Baldoz told GMA News Online of the return of chief cook Angelito Rojas.
Baldoz said the remains of the two Filipino crewmen would also be repatriated on Tuesday.
She added that the Philippine consul in Vietnam would have the information on the exact time of the repatriation.
On January 2, an all-Filipino crew cargo vessel—Bulk Jupiter—sank off Vietnam. One of the Filipino sailors were rescued, while two other bodies have been recovered.
Search and rescue operations are still ongoing for at least 16 other crew members of the cargo vessel.
Baldoz said that there are other procedures that have to be observed including the investigation.
"After mag-comply sa requirements, maaaring nang makauwi. Siyempre 'yung pamilya ng mga biktima gusto agad ma-take in possession ang katawan ng mga namatay, samantalang 'yung survivor naman, gustong maka-bonding agad ang kaniyang pamilya," she said.
In a separate text message, Assistant Secretary Charles Jose, spokesperson of the Department of Foreign Affairs, said the government was working to the "expeditious repatriation" of the survivor and the remains of the victims in the soonest possible time. —NB, GMA News
