Pinoys in Saipan mark papal visit in PHL with Mass
Over a hundred Filipinos in Saipan attended a Mass at San Jose Church last week to mark the visit of Pope Francis to the Philippines.
The Mass, celebrated by Rev. Father Rey Rosal, was held so that Filipinos in Saipan can be part of the papal visit despite their physical absence in the Philippines.
The event was spearheaded by the Marianas chapter of US Pinoys for Good Governance (USP4GG) and the Global Filipino Diaspora Marianas (GFDM).
"I am very thankful to Rev. Father Rey Rosal and to all the members, volunteers, supporters of the USP4GG, GFDM Marianas chapter and the members of Saipan community, " said Dr. Celia Lamkin, who chairs the USP4GG Marianas chapter (CNMI and Guam).
Aside from Filipinos, the Mass was also attended by a few Chamorros and Carolinians.
In his homily, Fr. Rosal echoed the theme of papal visit, "Mercy and Compassion."
"Let us continue to love one another, help and support each other, and let us have mercy and compassion especially those who are suffering and in pain, the poor and the needy," he said.
