5 human trafficking victims rescued in Kalibo

Five would-be victims of human trafficking were rescued before they could be brought to Malaysia, a television report said.

The five were intercepted at the Kalibo International Airport, according to a report on GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon" on Thursday.

Police said they acted on a tip that the victims were told to go to Kalibo International Airport and board a plane for Malaysia.

Investigation showed the five were instructed to act as tourists going to Malaysia for a vacation, but were to meet with prospective employers once there.

A record check also showed one of the five came all the way from Nueva Vizcaya.

Police are now tracking down those behind the scam. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
