Pinoy in Ohio bar killings gets life –reports
An undocumented Filipino in the United States has been sentenced to life imprisonment for shooting and killing three men, including an off-duty police officer, at a Fremont bar last year, reports said.
Igmidio Mista was convicted on three charges of murder and one count of attempted murder, a report on Sandusky Register said.
The report added that the 34-year-old Mista, who pleaded guilty for the charges, will not be eligible for parole until he's served at least 40 years in prison.
On March 9 last year, three people were killed while one was wounded when Mista opened fire following an altercation inside Last Call Bar on West State Street in Freemont, Ohio, a separate report on Toledo Blade said.
The reports identified the fatalities as Jose Andy Chavez, 26, the off-duty police officer; bartender Ramiro Sanchez, 28; and customer Daniel Ramirez, 25. Another victim, Ramiro Arreola, 25, was shot but eventually survived.
Earlier reports said the argument started after Mista slapped Chavez's wife for allegedly badmouthing him. At the time, Chavez was celebrating his birthday at the bar.
Mista was reportedly asked to leave the bar, but returned with a firearm and started shooting.
The Sandusky Register report said Mista accepted a last-minute plea deal, just as his case was set to go to a jury trial before Sandusky County Common Pleas Judge Barbara Ansted.
