2 Pinoys among 100 illegal immigrants detained in Malaysia raid – report

Two Filipino men were among some 100 illegal immigrants arrested in a raid on a bus terminal in Malacca in Malaysia Sunday, Malaysia's state-run Bernama news agency reported.

Bernama's report said the operation codenamed Ops Kutip was held at the Melaka Sentral bus terminal in Peringgit at 10 a.m.

It quoted Malacca Immigration director Mahpof Mahmood as saying the 100 included 32 Indonesian men and six women, 17 Bangladeshi men, 16 Nepalese men, 11 Myanmar men, eight Pakistani men, four Indian nationals and two men from Sri Lanka.

Mahpof said the foreigners "came from all parts of Malacca for leisure and to catch up with friends on weekends."

He said the 100 were among 550 foreigners screened as they came out of the domestic bus center. The foreigners were aged 20 to 55.

The foreigners' offenses include entering and residing in the country without valid passes or permits or possessing fake documents, he said.  Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
