    YESTERDAY, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), in collaboration with the Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost), unveiled a special postage stamp in commemoration of its 20th Anniversary.
    The unveiling ceremony was held at the EDSA Shangri-la Hotel, Mandaluyong City leaded by PhilHealth President and CEO Alexander A. Padilla and PhilPost Chairman of the Board Cesar N. Sarino.

    • The commemorative stamp will be made available to the public by February 16, 2015.
    The stamp measures 30mm x 40mm and bears PhilHealth’s 20th Anniversary logo and theme “Ensuring Universal Coverage for all Filipinos”. The vibrant, multi-colored pattern symbolizes PhilHealth’s dynamic initiatives in fulfilling its mandate of universal coverage and ensuring responsive benefits for its members. It also stands for PhilHealth’s strong partnership with health care service delivery providers.

    PhilHealth now covers about 82% of the 2014 projected population and coverage is still expanding with the implementation of the new Senior Citizen’s Law and other initiatives to fulfil its mandate.

    “We are very thankful to the PhilPost for printing our 20th Anniversary commemorative stamp. This will help generate awareness of what we are doing to keep the Filipino nation healthy. Philatelic enthusiasts among our fellowmen will certainly welcome this stamp as it institutionalizes our role as the nation’s social health insurer,”Padilla said.
    PhilPost is set to release PhilHealth’s 30,000 commemorative stamps starting February 16, 2015. (END)

    ADDIS ABABA: Africa has the fewest roads and cars of any region, and yet the largest ratio of vehicle deaths, caused by the usual suspects — unsafe habits, speeding and drinking — but also poor infrastructure, scant rescuers and old cars. As everywhere, speed, alcohol and not wearing a seat belt or helmet are among the main causes of death and injury, say experts. But in Africa, where there are 620 traffic deaths every day, these problems are compounded by bad roads, outdated vehicles, minimal prosecutions and a shortage of emergency services. A recent World Health Organization report found that Africa surpassed the rest of the world, including Southeast Asia — which recorded the most road deaths — with a record ratio of 19.5 people killed per 100,000 inhabitants in 2021.     Russian forces now control 98.5% of Luhansk, 60% of Donetsk MOSCOW: Russian troops on Wednesday took charge of the eastern Ukrainian town of Vuhledar, a bastion that had resisted intense attacks since Russia launched its full-scale assault in 2022. The advance of Moscow's forces, which control just under a fifth of Ukraine, has underlined Russia's vast superiority in men and materiel as Ukraine pleads for more weapons from the Western allies that have been supporting it.
