34 OFWs from Georgia arrive safely in Turkey

The second batch of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) caught in the conflict between Georgia and Russia arrived in Turkey Tuesday night.

In a report filed by ABS-CBN Europe News Bureau correspondent Weng Timoteo, the 34 Filipinos arrived in Turkey from Tbilisi at 9 p.m. (local time).

Though they showed signs of exhaustion from lack of sleep due to the 26-hour travel by bus, the OFWs were happy to be out of Georgia.

They thanked their company, the Anel Electric-Georgia, for the immediate evacuation to Turkey.

Philippine Ambassador to Turkey Bahnarim Guinomla personally met and interviewed the Filipino evacuees.

On Monday night, the first batch of Filipino evacuees arrived in Trabson City located in northern Turkey on the Black Sea Coast.

Members of the first batch are all employed by the Manila-based company International Container Terminal Services, Inc.

Guinomla earlier dispatched Consul General Alfonso Ver to Trabson City to link up with the 22 OFWs which composed the first batch of evacuees.

The evacuees said no one was reported hurt among their compatriots while in Georgia.
