5 charged for duping 11 would-be OFWs
MANILA, Philippines — Five people were charged on Thursday with illegal recruitment and estafa (fraud) before the Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) for allegedly duping 11 would-be OFWs with non-existent jobs in New Zealand.
Manila City Prosecutor Jhosep Lopez approved the filing of charges in separate information against Mateo R. Dy, Amor Angeles, Bob Pineda, Anna Marie A. Gali, and Mila Molina, who all claimed to be recruiting agents of the Lidros Service Contractor, whose office is located at 1253 Penafrancia St. in Manila’s Paco district.
An information penned by Assistant City Prosecutor Domingo I. Orda Jr said the separate charges stemmed from the complaints lodged by Jericfil Aquino, Susan Briones, Marilyn Cabullos, Saturnino Cabullos, Allan Cabullos, Reynaldo Damian, Eduardo Lagmay, Francisco Marcos, Marcelino Marcos, Eddie Mariano and Randy Mariano are from the towns of Mayantoc and Camiling in Tarlac province.
In a complaint filed with the Manila Police District (MPD) on May 15, 2006, the victims alleged that the five accused claiming to be authorized recruiters promised the complainants for job placements in New Zealand in the last quarter of year 2005.
The complaint said the recruiters demanded and charged P80,000 from each would-be overseas Filipino worker (OFW) as placement and processing fees but the promised deployment did not materialize.
Tired of being given the run-around by the accused, the victims filed a format complaint with the police.
