9 OFWs allegedly abused in Jordan back in RP
MANILA, Philippines - Nine overseas Filipino workers who claimed they were abused in Jordan arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport late Friday afternoon.
The group of repatriates arrived at the NAIA Terminal 1 via Gulf Air Flight GF-156Q about 5:55 p.m., where they were greeted by officials from the Overseas Workers Welfare Authority.
Among the nine OFWs returnees was “Girlie" who was in a radio advertisement of Senate President Manuel “Manny" Villar’s OFW Helpline.
In the radio spiel, Girlie said the now famous line, “Nagpapainit ako ng tubig para sa asawa (ng amo ko) at magkakape raw siya ng tea…hinila niya ang buhok ko at inilublob sa mainit na tubig."
(I was heating water for the coffee of my employer’s spouse when she dunked my head in boiling water)
Girlie attempted to leave Jordan last April but local authorities stopped her at the airport, saying she had to face charges hurled by her employer for allegedly being a “runaway guest."
The eight other repatriates, most of whom are Mindanao natives, were Fatima Abeleda, Zenefen Acoba, Subai Daud, Ivon Mabangis, Kareen Maggay, Nina Penaroyo, Marie Candie Pineda at Noema Ikay.
In his trip to Jordan, Villar urged the Philippine embassy in Jordan not to sit on Girlie’s case. In no time, the employers of the abused OFWs were persuaded to let her go and drop the charge against her. - Mark Ubalde, GMANews.TV
