Raps filed vs Singaporean trafficker who victimizes Pinays
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed human trafficking charges against a Malaysia-based Singaporean who was allegedly the ringleader of a syndicate victimizing Filipina women, including minors.
The suspect was identified as Alfred Lim, who had been accused by his Filipino victims of recruiting them through false promises. He was arrested together with his Malaysian wife Monday.
A contingent of prosecutors led by Assistant State Prosecutor Severino Gana flew to Malaysia Monday to charge and prosecute Lim.
Lim’s arrest was based on a complaint of two Filipina women who accused him of forcing them to work as prostitutes in Malaysia.
Based on the two victims’ accounts, Lim owns a recruitment agency in Malaysia that lures young women to work as either domestic helpers or waitresses there with promises of good pay and excellent work conditions. Later, however, they were forced to work as sex slaves in brothels where they said they were not paid and were even maltreated.
The victims said Lim has accomplices in the Philippines who were paid for every individual they could send to Malaysia. They said that they were even escorted through the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport in Pasay City by two Immigration agents. - GMANews.TV
