PHL team bags 62 medals in 2013 handgun championship in New Zealand


The Philippine delegation won 62 medals in the recent International Practical Shooting Confederation Australasia (IPCSA) 2013 Handgun Championship in New Zealand.

Team Philippines raked in 30 gold, 22 silver and 10 bronze medals in the competition held for the first time in Rotorua from February 26 to March 2, a news release of the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

With over 750 participants hailing from 25 countries, the Philippines won 10 events in the Standard Division, 10 in the Production Division, 6 in the Open Division, 4 in the Classic Division and 2 in the Revolver Division.

Meanwhile, overall team champion gold and silver medals were awarded to Filipinos in the following divisions:
GOLD
Standard – 4
Production – 4
Open – 4
Classic - 4
Revolver – 3

SILVER
Open Lady – 4
Open Junior - 4
Open Senior – 4

Philippine Ambassador to New Zealand Virginia H. Benavidez joined the Philippine contingent during the opening ceremony on February 25 when the participating teams were treated to a unique traditional Maori Powhiri welcome.

Benavidez said the participation of Team Philippines in the 2013 IPCSA would help build bridges among Filipinos and other nationals alike.

“Team Philippines would undoubtedly contribute to closer people-to-people understanding and goodwill among Filipinos, New Zealanders and representatives from other countries and our resounding cheers, heartfelt prayers and best wishes for greater success and victories are with them,” she said.
