VP Binay to meet with Pinoys in Italy after pope's inauguration

Vice President Jejomar Binay will meet with the Filipino community in Italy after representing the Philippines at the inauguration of Pope Francis (Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio) on Tuesday.

The installation of Pope Francis is expected to begin 9:30 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m. Rome time (4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. respectively, PHL time).

Binay, the presidential adviser on Overseas Filipino Worker concerns, said he will update Filipinos on government programs.

In a post on his Facebook account, Binay said he has "made it a point to visit the Filipino communities in all countries that he visits."

On Monday, Binay left for the Vatican to represent the Philippines at the inauguration of Pope Francis (Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio).

Binay said he will bring a letter from President Benigno Aquino III congratulating the Pope, before meeting with members of the Filipino community in Italy during his trip there.

"I'll be representing the country in the inaugural Mass and the installation of the Pope. And I'll be bringing likewise the letter of the President congratulating the Pope," he said.

Pope Francis was elected last March 14 to replace Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who stepped down from his post for health reasons.

Binay reiterated it is an honor for him to witness a new pope's installation of a new Pope while representing Filipino Catholics.

He also urged Filipinos to pray that Pope Francis "lead the Church with wisdom, humility, compassion and grace." - VVP, GMA News
