UAE court sentences Pinoy to one year in jail for male prostitution

A United Arab Emirates (UAE) court on Wednesday sentenced a Filipino salesman to one year in jail after projecting himself as a “male prostitute” online, a UAE news site reported on Thursday.

The Filipino, 30, was discovered and charged after Emirati police who were surfing the web for Internet-related crimes, Gulf News reported.

The prosecutors had accused the salesman of creating a personal online account introducing himself as a prostitute who can perform services for male clients.

The Dubai Court of First Instance also handed a six-month jail term for a Filipino waiter who supposedly had consensual sex with the salesman, the report added.

However, the 30-year-old Filipino denied working as a male prostitute, although he admitted he allowed the waiter to have sex with him.

The waiter was absent when the court handed the sentence.

The judgment may be appealed within 15 days.

Bizarre services

A cyber-policeman said he discovered the salesman was promoting himself as a prostitute on a website, and that he “listed the type of men that he preferred and listed the special bizarre services that he was capable of rendering to clients for Dh400.”

“He posted his indecent photos and a mobile number for males [only] to contact him. He used a fake name and called himself Jon Sedrick. Police formed an undercover team that set up a plan to arrest the defendant in a sting operation,” the policeman testified.

In the sting operation, an undercover policeman posing as a male client agreed to meet and have sex with the salesman for Dh800 at a hotel in Dubai.

Found in the salesman’s possession were two condoms. His mobile phone was also found to have contained pornographic content. - VVP, GMA News
