Pinoys in HK hold Labor Day march to stop ‘migrant fees’
Filipino workers in Hong Kong on Friday held a Labor Day march to call for a stop to fees imposed on them by the Philippine government, Radio-Television Hong Kong reported.
The RTHK report said more than 100 Filipino migrant workers went to the Philippine Consulate in Admiralty to air their concerns.
Eman Villanueva of the Asian Migrants Coordinating Body claimed Filipino migrant workers had to pay some HK$4,500 (P25,865) to the Philippine government before they can even depart for Hong Kong.
A photo posted by RTHK showed the workers calling themselves the "Network of OFWs Opposed to Excessive Government Fees" wearing red shirts and bringing a streamer calling for "No Fee."
Villanueva said the charge takes away from the OFWs' modest salary hikes, and should have instead gone to the OFWs' families. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
