Shorter queues at PHL Embassy in Kuala Lumpur with new computerized system

Filipinos in Malaysia who need to make consular transactions with the Philippine Embassy there may benefit from a new computerized system that aims to shorten queues.

The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on Monday said the computerized queue management system (QMS) will also ensure a smooth servicing of consular applicants.

"Consular clients now are seated while waiting their turn to be served. With the new queue system, we have eliminated long lines at our consular section," Ambassador Jose Eduardo Malaya said (http://www.philembassykl.org.my/main/index.php/test-menu/231-phl-embassy-eliminates-queues-with-introduction-of-electronic-system).

Under the system, clients may get a number from a ticket machine by pressing a button for:

- passport application
- visa application
- notarial and legal documents
- processing of overseas employment certificate (OEC)
- Overseas Workers Welfare Administration membership and other services.

A LED screen and sound system will notify clients when it is their turn to be served, then directs them to the proper service window.

The embassy said the QMS is the second phase of the consular upgrade project for this year.

In the first phase of the upgrade — a joint initiative of the Embassy and the Filipino Businessmen and Professional Caucus (FBPC) — 1,260 square feet of the consular area's floor tiles were replaced.

Also, the embassy's consular area was enclosed and air-conditioned in 2012, and TV sets and free wi-fi services were added later. Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
