Over 200,000 benefited from 'one-stop shop' for OFWs –DOLE

Over 200,000 OFWs have benefited from the "one-stop shops" set up by the government in various areas nationwide upon orders from President Rodrigo Duterte.
According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the One-Stop Service Center for OFWs (OSSCO) has served 219,697 OFWs and would-be OFWs as of December 7.
OSSCO was launched in August to provide OFWs or those intending to work abroad with a range of accessible inter-agency services by putting in one location all government agencies that give documentary services and other assistance to them.
Aside from the one located at the lobby of POEA Main Office in Mandaluyong City, OSSCO branches were also established in Baguio, Pampanga Calamba City, Palawan, Cebu, Iloilo, Tacloban, Zamboanga, and Koronadal City.
The DOLE said 6,222 of the 219,697 clients received assistance from the regional branches of OSSCO, while the OSSCO in the POEA Main Office has served 51,373 clients.

Meanwhile, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) had catered to 39,611 clients who renewed or applied for membership and inquired on other OFW-related concerns. This was followed by the Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), which served 28,808 people who applied for Pag IBIG membership, loyalty card, STL, and provident benefit claim.

A total of 29,288 Social Security System (SSS) clients that registered and amended their membership data, applied for benefit loan claim, verified their loan or contribution status, enrolled for their Unified Multi-purpose ID Card and inquired about their other SSS concerns.

The Philippine Health lnsurance Corporation (PhilHealth) recorded the fourth biggest number of people served at 22,174, who paid their PhilHealth contribution at the Center, applied for or renewed their membership, and inquired about other Philhealth-related concerns.

A total of 16,002 OFWs have availed of pre-processing of passport applications and inquired about other consular services at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) booth.

In the regions, Zamboanga’s OSSCO at OWWA Regional Office No. 9 in Zamboanga City recorded the biggest number of clients served at 2,871.

Most of the services provided consisted of responses to queries and OFW records issuance and legal assistance. Iloilo meanwhile served 900 clients, most of whom underwent Balik Manggagawa documentation.

The OSSCO in POEA, including those in regional centers, is run by 16 government agencies. —KBK, GMA News
