12 recruitment firms sanctioned over violations

Eleven recruitment agencies lost their licenses while the license of another one was suspended due to various infractions, POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia said in a press briefing Wednesday.
"Ito 'yung mga pending cases before the deployment ban," he said, referring to the ban in the deployment of first-time OFWs to Kuwait.
"Ibig sabihin, may dati na silang mga kaso bago pa na-declare 'yung total deployment [ban]. Ang ginawa lang po natin, in-expedite namin 'yung resolution ng mga cases na ito based upon the pronouncement of the president and of course the secretary."
Some of the labor violations cited by Olalia include violations of the provisions of the employment contract, substitution of contract, and non-payment of wages.
The agencies are:
1) Al Bayan International Manpower Services Co.;
2) Bumiputra Gulf Company Inc.;
3) Gold Fortune Human Resources Corp;
4) LFC International Human Resources;
5) Aisis International Manpowere Incorporated;
6) GreatWorld International Management Inc.;
7) GlobalGate International Manpower Services Inc.;
8) MMML Recruitment Services Inc.;
9) NRS Placement Inc. (four months suspension of license, reprimand);
10) SML Human Resources Inc.;
11) Best Migrant Workers International Manpower Services Inc.
Olalia said the agencies can appeal the cancellation or suspension of their licenses 15 days upon their receipt of the Department of Labor and Employment resolution. For the meantime, they cannot process the papers of any clients pending the success of their appeal.
At the same time, five Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) officers were removed from their posts for allegedly deploying some first-time OFWs as Balik Manggagawa.
"[They] will be charged will appropriate cases [and] are guilty of irregularities or anomalies... may mga liability po sila, haharap 'yan," Olalia said.
the five POEA employees will be shuffled off to other departments where, according to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, they could do "no harm" until their cases are resolved.
Olalia said they may announce another round of cancellations as they continue to process cases of violations by private recruitment firms. —KBK, GMA News

Pixabay MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has expanded its list of medicines which are exempt from the value added tax (VAT). Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 17-2024 released by the tax bureau exempted 21 medications following the endorsement of the Food and Drug Administration.
