OFWs to suffer backlash of PHL envoy’s expulsion from Kuwait —group

Militant pro-migrants group Migrante International on Thursday criticized the Philippine government for the expulsion of Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait Renato Villa, saying it would put OFWs into "deeper trouble."
In a statement, Migrante said OFWs have to "suffer even more" due to the "inexcusable blunder" that resulted from the government's supposed lack of sincerity in providing long-term solutions to the problems of migrant workers.
"We are calling on the government to apologize to our OFWs for putting them into deeper trouble and make amends by heeding to their calls of providing immediate justice, ensuring full protection of their rights, deprivatization of overseas work program & creation of decent and adequate jobs at home," the group said
The group called on the government to reveal the participants in the rescue of the Filipino housemaids, as requested by the Kuwait government to Villa.
"If they are really sincere in rescuing our distressed OFWs they should have put such mechanism in their bilateral agreement with Kuwait. Kaso wala," Migrante said.
Earlier, the group commended the rescue of OFWs allegedly abused by their employers but said the actual operation was used as a publicity stunt by several Cabinet members "vying for next year's election." —Rie Takumi/KBK, GMA News
