SIM card for Pinoy seafarers allows cheaper calls, texts

A telecom company has launched an international SIM card that allows Filipino seafarers to call and text Philippine numbers at cheaper rates while they are overseas.

In an emailed statement, the Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. said its Globe Seafarer Sim will allow subscribers to call Globe and TM subscribers at P30 per minute, and P10 per text.
"Our goal is to provide communication solutions that support the emotional needs of our seafarers who are longing for home and their families," Mike Frausing, senior adviser of Globe International Business Group, said.
Preactivated with international roaming and valid for one year, the SIM card is available at the departure area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the regional airports in Clark, Cebu, Davao, and Iloilo.
The development was done in partnership with the Luneta Seafarers Welfare Foundation (LUSWELF), in celebration of the National Maritime Week. —Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/KBK, GMA News
