Raped OFW in Jeddah slashes wrist to escape employer


JEDDAH — A Filipino worker here slit her wrist in an attempt to flee her employer after she was allegedly raped by her employer's son-in-law.
"Jinky," who is now in the custody of Philippine authorities here, said hurting herself was the only way she thought she could leave her employer, who she said refused to believe that she was raped.
"Hindi ko na makayanan, kung anu-ano na ang naiisip ko. Gustong-gusto ko nang makatakas sa bahay na 'yun. Ang tanging paraan lang para makaalis sa bahay na 'yun ay maglaslas ako," Jinky told GMA News.
Jinky, who has been working in Saudi Arabia for only four months, said the incident happened when she and her employer spent several days in her employer's son's house.
She said she couldn't escape as the doors in the house were locked.
Jinky said she begged her employer to bring her to the agency but her employer said she should pay 40,000 SAR first.
After her hunger strike failed to elicit her desired reaction from her employer, she slashed her wrist, Jinky said.
This, however, prompted her employer to drag her to the police.
"Akala ko kung saan ako dadalhin. Ang sabi ng amo ko magbabakasyon lang ako hindi ko alam na sa kulungan na pala ako dadalhin. Nabanggit ko po sa amo ko na nagahasa ako pero ayaw nya maniwala sa akin," she said.
Consul General Edgar Badajos said attempted suicide is punishable in Saudi Arabia.
"Pagkakulong [ang parusa]. Hindi naman masyadong mabigat, mga one year, and hindi rin natin sigurado kung may kasama na palo dahil Ia-assess pa ito ng korte. Pero alam namin 'yung iba ay may lashes," he said.
Following negotiation with the Saudi police, Philippine authorities were able to take custody of Jinky.
Jinky said she is no longer interested in filing a case as she only wants to go home.

Revenue Memorandum Circular No. 17-2024 released by the tax bureau exempted 21 medications following the endorsement of the Food and Drug Administration.
