Palace: DFA monitoring situation of Filipinos in wake of Hokkaido quake

Malacañang said the government is checking on the situation of Filipinos in Japan after a powerful magnitude 6.7 earthquake hit the northern island of Hokkaido on Thursday morning.
“The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) continues to monitor the situation and stays in touch with the leaders of the Filipino community in Hokkaido to check the condition of our kababayans there and ensure that every one is safe and accounted for,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
The Philippine government also expressed solidarity with Japan following the quake that triggered a landslide in one town.
At least 19 people were missing and 120 people were injured in Hokkaido after the temblor, reports said.
There were no early reports of deaths but a man suffered cardiac arrest after falling down stairs, Japanese media reported.
“Our prayers to the people of Japan who were affected by [the earthquake],” Roque said. —LBG, GMA News
