Pinoy shares Japan quake experience: Akala ko mamamatay na ako

About 60 Filipino tourists were at the Japanese city of Sapporo when it was hit by a powerful earthquake on Thursday, killing 16 people as of latest report.
According to Richie Uy, one of the tourists, he and about 40 others were asleep on the 19th floor of a hotel when they felt the 6.6-magnitude quake.
"Natutulog na kami nun. That was around 3 a.m. nung nangyari ['yung lindol]. Akala ko mamamatay na ako. Sobrang lakas talaga," he said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV.
"Ang maganda dun I think the buildings here are earthquake-proof. Wala kang makikitang cracks sa mga building dito. Parang building na sumasayaw siya kahit malakas uga."
Uy said he was with a group of about 40 Filipino tourists. He said he knew of another group consisting of 26 tourists.
The quake struck 62 kilometers (39 miles) southeast of the Sapporo, according to Agence France-Presse.
Uy said the hotel lost power after the earthquake.
None among his fellow tourists was hurt in the incident, Uy said, adding they were even "comfortable" in the hotel despite the lost of electricity.
"Kumportable naman kami kasi may generator naman yung hotel pero walang aircon," he said.
Uy said their only problem was the hotel had no food because there were no deliveries following the quake, and the long lines in convenience stores.
Uy and his group are set to return to the Philippines on Saturday while the other group will fly home on Sunday. —KBK, GMA News
