MANILA -- No Filipinos were hurt in the fatal gas-leak explosion in Paris, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Sunday, as it extended its condolences to the families of the victims.
Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato said French officials informed the agency that none of the three fatalities or the 50 injured people were from Manila.
Records from the Department of Foreign Affairs show that there are at least 25,000 Filipinos in France, and most of them are staying in the city of Paris.
At least three people died while dozens more were injured when a powerful gas explosion destroyed a bakery in Rue de Trevise on Saturday morning.
Many homes and buildings in Paris use gas for heating and cooking, though explosions due to leaks are relatively rare.
