Offbeat: In a Saudi Arabian restaurant, finish your food or pay a fine

A restaurant in Dammam, Saudi Arabia has introduced penalties against customers who do not finish their food, a report of the news site Emirates 24/7 said.

The report said the restaurant's move was meant to enourage customers to be moderate in choosing their orders.

The restaurant explained that its new rules are based on Islamic teachings, which prohibit extravagance in food and drinks.

Sabq Arabic language daily reported that some customers support the restaurant's rules "while others said the restaurant has no right to do so…they said the restaurant could lose many customers because of such a decision.” - VVP, GMA News
