To prevent further damage to a vehicle submerged under floods caused by the torrential rains during these past few days, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines offers these tips:InterAksyon.com

1. Disconnect the battery terminals as soon as possible. Do not turn the ignition switch to ACC or ON, and do not attempt to start the engine.
2. If you suspect that water is present inside the cylinders, remove spark plugs or glow plugs. If there is a possibility of water contamination in the automatic or manual transmission, or in the differential, be sure to tow the vehicle with the drive wheels off the ground.
3. Do not reconnect the battery terminals or start the engine until the repairs have been completed.
4. Drain water and wash the vehicle’s exterior, if possible. Ventilate the vehicle by opening the doors, but be careful of theft.
5. Have your vehicle brought to the nearest authorized dealer for diagnosis/repair/cleaning. Do not attempt to repair/diagnose your vehicle by yourself.
6. Check your vehicle insurance policy for insurance coverage.
