PHL Embassy in UAE to start services in new location June 1
Starting June 1, the Philippine embassy in the United Arab Emirates will render services to Filipinos from a new location – a twin villa that allows more room for attached agencies.
The new embassy in Abu Dhabi located opposite Mushrif Mall will be opened to the public at 8 a.m., Gulf News reported on Sunday.
“The Filipinos in Abu Dhabi have outgrown the embassy... It’s high time that the embassy moved to a bigger location where Filipinos can transact their business properly. The move is favorable to all of us since there will be more space for the [delivery of] services,” Gulf News quoted Ernesto Refugio, chairman of Bayanihan Council, an umbrella organization of Filipino groups in Abu Dhabi, as saying.
Some 200,000 Filipinos live and work in Abu Dhabi, the Gulf News report noted.
The new embassy's address is at W-48, Street No 8, Sector 4 2-23, Plot 51, Al Qubaisat in Abu Dhabi.
It is open to the public at 8 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 5 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday.
In the new compound is a twin villa, one of which will be occupied by the embassy.
Philippine ambassador to UAE Grace Princesa said one villa will have services related to the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the other is for the attached agencies.
The other will be occupied by attached agencies such as the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (Polo), the Social Security System, and the Home Development Mutual Fund.
"With this, there will be more organized delivery of services in terms of space utilization,” Princesa said.
Cramped
Refugio noted the old embassy had been cramped with people applying for exit clearances, passports, and notary public services.
But at the new embassy, exit clearances will be issued at the POLO office while passports and consular documents will be issued in the main chancery.
Also Princesa said the new location is more accessible by public transport.
Commuters may take Bus 52, 32, 44, and get off opposite Mushrif Mall, while those taking Bus 53 and 34 may get off at 27th Street after turning left from Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street. — Joel Locsin /LBG, GMA News
