UAE court acquits Pinoy engineer of charges he molested teenage Pinay
A Filipino engineer was acquitted of charges he molested a 13-year-old Filipina schoolgirl in the United Arab Emirates, a UAE news site reported Friday.
The Dubai Court of First Instance cited lack of corroborated evidence in clearing the civil engineer, 36, of the charges, Gulf News reported.
“I did not do such a thing,” the engineer had told the court, referring to the accusation against him.
He added the girl’s father may have fabricated the allegations out of malice.
The engineer had been accused of sexually molesting the 13-year-old by hugging and kissing her when he shared accommodation with her family.
Citing court records, the report said the girl's father overheard her telling a friend on Facebook that the family's former housemate, the engineer, allegedly kissed and groped her.
Prosecutors had claimed the suspect abused the situation where he shared the same residence with the teenager’s family and that he hugged and kissed against her will.
The teenager claimed the engineer hugged and kissed her for the first time in the elevator when she returned from the grocery.
She said he did so a second time while she was studying in the sitting room and her parents were away.
The father claimed he was in the sitting room when he heard his daughter telling a friend on Facebook that she had been kissed.
“When my daughter and her friend where discussing sex, I overheard her saying that someone had kissed her before. I was shocked because she was still young. Immediately I asked her to quit the chat. When I asked her about the content and when did that happen, she cried and did not speak. Then she ran in to the kitchen and wrote on a napkin ‘I am afraid of what happened in Bur Dubai,’" he said.
He said his daughter then claimed the engineer molested her, adding he "constantly kissed her like grown-ups and asked her not to tell anyone.”
Also, the prosecution's records showed the father took his daughter to a public hospital to be examined by a psychiatrist, and was instructed to report the matter to the police. —Joel Locsin/KBK, GMA News
