The ACTS-OFW party-list has vowed to provide assistance to the families of the six overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who died in a road accident along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in Apalit, Pampanga last Saturday.
In a statement, ACTS-OFW party-list Representative John Bertiz III expressed condolences to the families of the slain OFWs.
He said they are now reaching out to the families of the victims of the road mishap to extend assistance in any way and help them recuperate from the accident that claimed the lives of their loved ones and wounded nine other passengers.
"The entire ACTS-OFW Partylist is also trying to connect to the nine injured OFWs who are currently hospitalized and recovering from this mishap to provide our assistance in moving past this harrowing ordeal,” Bertiz said.
“I was informed that the injured OFWs were sent to Jose B. Lingad Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment, where we have put up the first OFW hospital wing to provide medical assistance for OFWs in cases such as these,” he added.
According to Superintendent Elmer Decena of the Apalit police, the incident happened when the tire of a Hyundai H100 semi-van blew out at the northbound lane of the NLEX viaduct at Barangay Tabuyoc around 12:30 p.m.
The van also hit a truck before flipping to its side, with some of the passengers being thrown out of the vehicle and into an area underneath the viaduct.
Bertiz thanked the NLEX management for their swift action on the incident by sending out patrol and medical teams to the scene immediately.
He said more OFW wings will be added in various medical centers nationwide to attend to the needs of the Filipino migrant workers and their families. —LDF, GMA News
