DOJ to launch special panel for harassment, abuse cases against women, children
MANILA, Philippines – TheDepartment of Justice (DOJ) is set to launch a special committee which will handle cases of violence and harassment against women and children.
In a report on UNTV News and Rescue’s C-NEWS by Mai Bermudez on Thursday, DOJ said the special panel, which will be called Committee on Decorum and Investigation, will be launched in time for the celebration of the International Women’s Month this March.
“This is leading actually to our launching of Committee on Decorum and Investigation which handles cases of harassment which we will launch at the end of the month,” DOJ Committee on Women and Children Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar said in an interview with reporters on Thursday.
Aglipay-Villar noted that currently, there is an 85 percent increase in the resolution of cases that are related to violence against women and children when compared with the previous years, attributing it to the employment of a plea bargaining system.
The DOJ Official also said that the Prosecutors who will handle the cases under the special committee will undergo a series of trainings beginning next week. – Robie de Guzman
