Pinoy injured in drive-by shooting at risk of paralysis
BURLINGAME, California - A Filipino is at risk of paralysis from the waist down after sustaining wounds in a drive-by shooting in San Francisco that left one person dead and four others hurt.
Mikkel Aragon said he was supposed to have dinner with friends, including Fernando Teodoro, last Saturday night in San Francisco’s Fillmore District.
“My brother and I were outside the restaurant then we heard a bunch of guns shots, probably 12 or 15 of them. And when we saw people running a block and a half away I told him we better get in man," Aragon said.
Soon after, Teodoro called saying he'd been shot while walking to the restaurant.
"When everybody was running out of the scene of the crime, we were getting in and it was complete mayhem. There was a dead body. Fights breaking out," he recalled.
Aragon and others stayed with Teodoro until paramedics came and took him to San Francisco General Hospital.
While on the scene, Teodoro told Aragon that he could not feel his legs, which was later confirmed by doctors.
"They said there's a 90-percent chance he's not going to be able to walk again and I was the one freaking out for him but he said, 10 percent is more than I need. And you just see his positivity and his spirits are high so we're trying to keep it that way," he said.
Aragon said Teodoro had a successful surgery Wednesday, which was to help support his spinal cord and remove bone fragments.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, two people have been arrested.
The case remains under investigation.
