DFA reminds Pinoys in HK that passports are gov't property, can't be used as loan collateral

The Department of Foreign Affairs reminded Filipinos in Hong Kong that Philippine passports are considered government property and may not be used as collateral for any loan, according to a report on Dobol B sa News TV on Sunday by Mao dela Cruz.

The DFA issued the reminder after Hong Kong Police seized 1,400 Philippine passports from a lending company after these were handed over to the firm by overseas Filipino workers as collateral for loans.
Foreign Service Circular No. 2014-99 bars the use of passport for collateral.
As a consequence, the passports will be invalidated. —KG, GMA News
