Pinoys in Hong Kong urged: Don't go near site of massive HK protests

Filipinos in Hong Kong — overseas workers and tourists alike — have been advised to stay away from Admiralty, the site of a standoff between the police and hundreds of protesters who had stormed the legislature to criticize a controversial extradition bill.
In a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday,, GMA News’ stringer Azon Cañete said the consulate made the appeal in an advisory issued Monday, July 1, a  holiday to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the Chinese-ruled city's handover from Britain to China.
"Nagkataon na holiday din ang karamihan ng ating OFWs so supposedly nage-enjoy sila ng hoiday sa area mismo ng Cetral Government Office kaya nagbigay na ng babala ang ating konsulado na huwag muna pumunta sa lugar na iyon sa sa Admiralty na usual tambayan ng OFWs 'pag holiday," she said.
She said the Philippine Consulate office is right beside the Central Government Office
Aside from Admiralty, OFWs were also advised to refrain from taking the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) in the area.
"Iyong MTR, doon bumbaba ang karamihan ng kababayan natin, ay sinarado nung umaga pa rin at binuksan pansamantala pero kagabi sa kaguluhan ay sinara uli so iyon ang hindi dapat puntahan ng ating mga OFWs," she said.
Hong Kong's Central Government Complex was back under the control of authorities after a sea of protesters occupied a building,
As part of the ongoing demonstration against the extradition bill, protesters invaded the Legislative Council Building at the government headquarters Monday night.
The tension between protesters and authorities heightened Monday night after the power supply in the building went out. Due to this, the authorities retreated away from the building.
Protesters broke the glass doors of the establishment and eventually penetrated the Legislative Council Building.
However, the police managed to regain control over the area on Tuesday.
Protesters are opposing the extradition bill which orders the transfer of case of an accused person in Hong Kong to mainland China.
Accused persons will be deported to China where they will be detained, tried and punished. — Joviland Rita/MDM, GMA News
