DOLE, ILO ink agreement on post-arrival seminar for OFWs

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Wednesday inked an agreement with International Labour Organization (ILO) Country Director Khalid Hassan to create a seminar that would effectively orient overseas Filipino workers once they arrive in the country of their employment.
“It is important for our OFWs to be oriented about the profile of their working environment, including the host country’s culture and laws relevant to their labor migration. They must be informed on their rights and responsibilities as migrant workers to fully secure their welfare as well as enjoy the benefits of working overseas for the sake of their families back home,” Bello said in a statement.
Under this agreement, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the ILO will jointly develop the design and mechanics of a Post-Arrival Orientation Seminar (PAOS) for OFWs heading to Hong Kong.
The learning system will eventually be adopted by other Philippine Overseas Labor Offices (POLO) around the globe.
OFWs will be required to attend the PAOS within one month upon their arrival at their host country, according to the DOLE. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
