Pinoys in S. Korea donate slippers, school supplies to Ifugao school
Through a friend's request, a group of overseas Filipino workers in South Korea donated slippers and school supplies to students of the Sta. Maria National High School in Alfonso Lista, Ifugao early this month.
"Kakilala ko lang siya. Athlete kasi ako nung high school kaya kapag may provincial meets, nagkikita-kita at naging magkaibigan," said Joeped Baccay Cuaresma, secretary of Ilocanos in South Korea (ISK), in an email interview last July 25, referring to the feeding coordinator of the SMNHS.
"Then nakikita niya yung natutulungan ng ISK kaya nag-message siya sa akin," the 34-year-old factory worker in Siheung said.
SMNHS' feeding coordinator had asked assistance for 29 students only, but the ISK has instead donated 60 pairs of branded slippers, 30 notebooks, 30 pad papers, 50 pens, and 72 pencils.
“I am the one to serve the donations with my family because that is what I want: to serve people,” added Cuaresma who is a native of Barangay Sto. Domingo, Alicia, Isabela.
Founded just a year ago—April 14, 2018—the ISK intends to connect with Ilocanos in South Korea and help those who are in need, just like what it has done with the Aeta Community in Peñablanca, Cagayan; Caglayan, Conner, Apayao; and in our Our Lady of Visitation in Alfornso Lista, Ifugao.
What the ISK has done recently was also in support to the “Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd (OKD) Program.”
“I like so much to help, especially my fellow Filipinos who are in need. I would like also to call on the other OFW organizations to do something like we did.” —LBG, GMA News
