DFA confirms death of 2 Pinoys in Qatar blast; remains repatriated
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday confirmed the death of two Filipino bomb technicians working for the interior ministry of Qatar earlier this week, as it said remains of the victims were expected to be repatriated in the country Friday afternoon.
Philippine ambassador to Qatar Isaias Begonia reported that Eldred Canuto Brinas, 51, of Iriga City and Ramon OlaƱo Espiritu, 52, of Camarines Sur died on April 28 from injuries they sustained while disposing confiscated explosive materials believed to be firecrackers in the municipality of Dukhan, Qatar.
The two are working as explosive technicians of the Internal Security Force of Qatar's Ministry of Interior. Begonia said the incident is still being investigated by Qatari police.
The official also said the remains of the two Filipino workers are set to be repatriated Friday via Qatar Airways flight QR646 which was set to arrive in Manila 2:30 p.m. Friday. - GMANews.TV
