DFA to confirm plight of 7 Pinays caught carrying drugs into HK

MANILA, Philippines- Reports that seven Filipino women from Northern Luzon were caught acting as couriers of illegal drugs and ended up in Hong Kong deportation centers are still being confirmed by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

“I will inquire about this from our Assistance to Nationals (ATN) there," DFA spokesperson Claro Cristobal told GMANews.TV in a phone interview on Wednesday.

A Cordillera-based gender rights group was quoted in reports as saying that the seven Filipinas were duped by their Filipino recruiter into traveling for free to the Chinese province by carrying illegal drugs.

Relatives of the victims approached the group to seek assistance. - Mark Joseph Ubalde, GMANews.TV
