DOLE, POEA sign labor education agreement with Korea

The Department of Labor and Employment and the Philippine Overseas
Employment Administration recently signed a memorandum of understanding
with the Korea Labor Education Institute (KLEI) promoting labor education among
EPS‐Korea workers.

Administrator Rosalinda Dimapilis Baldoz said the labor education program seeks
to prevent disputes and problems between Filipino EPS workers and their Korean
employers.

The International Labor Organization (ILO) has observed the need to enhance the
workers’ knowledge on occupational safety and health, and Korean labor laws
such as the Labor Standards Act, Minimum Wage Act, and the Foreign
Employment Act, particularly during their pre‐departure training.

The MOU also specifies cooperation in the fields of information exchange,
research, and capacity building.

The KLEI, with the assistance of the Philippine Embassy in Seoul has conducted
several seminars on occupational safety and health and Korean labor laws among
Filipino community leaders who are now working in Korea under the Employment
Permit System.

DOLE Undersecretary Luzviminda G. Padilla, Administrator Rosalinda Dimapilis‐
Baldoz, and KLEI President Han Seung Sun signed the MOU at the POEA office on
May 2, 2008. POEA News
