Are hugging, kissing allowed while fasting during Ramadan?



The news site Emirates 24/7 featured various queries about the proper way of observing Ramadan, considered by Muslims worldwide as a holy month of fasting.

The questions featured on Emirates 24/7 were answered by the Fatwa Section of the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. 

Some of the featured questions are:

Do displays of affection, such as hugging and kissing, between a husband and wife during Ramadan affect the validity of their fast?
 
According to the Fatwa section, during Ramadan, kissing and hugging that lead to desire are forbidden.

Someone who violates the fast must fast for another day and feed "a person in poverty,” the report said.
 
"If kissing or hugging does not lead to desire, it is still to be avoided as it could disrupt one’s fast," the Fatwa said.


If a person fails to fast due to a severe disease and suddenly dies, should the deceased person's guardian undertake the fast on his or her behalf? 
The Fatwa section said, “If one dies because of sickness and the same sickness prevented fasting, the guardian does not have to undertake a fast on the deceased’s behalf.”
 
However, if the sick person recovers, but suddenly dies before making up for missed fasts, "the guardians should fast on the deceased’s behalf,” the Fatwa section said.

 
What should a person do if he or she breaks the fast early?
 
The Fatwa section said a person who "breaks the fast by mistake, must re-fast this day.”
 
The report said a person must not break his or her fast "unless one is sure that the Maghreb prayer call has been made."


Does a full-body medical checkup invalidate  a person's fast?
 
A woman who undergoes a full-body medical examination by a doctor during Ramadan invalidates the fast, the Fatwa section said. 
 
Duriring the fasting period, the Fatwa section said " women must not be subjected to a medical examination, particularly one where the doctor has to examine her body."
 
The fast becomes invalid if the doctor examines women and "there is physical contact, the fast is invalid and one will have to make-up the fast. - VVP, GMA News
