DFA: No report for now on Pinoy casualty in strong Iran quakes


Amid the rising number of bodies pulled out from rubble, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs has yet to receive information about Filipinos being killed or hurt when two strong earthquakes struck northwest Iran on Saturday.


In an interview by Mao dela Cruz on dzBB, DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez said they have yet to receive information from the Philippine Embassy in Tehran regarding the situation of Filipinos in quake-hit areas.

Hernandez said there are around 1,000 Filipinos in Iran.

Last Saturday, Ahar, Varzaghan and Tabriz Cities were hit by a 6.6-magnitude earthquake.

According to a report by Reuters, at least 153 people had been killed while some 1,300 had been injured.

Thousands fled their homes and remained outdoors as at least 20 aftershocks have been recorded since the quakes struck. — Mandy Fernandez /LBG, GMA News
