289 Filipinos deported from Sabah arrive in Mindanao
At least 289 Filipinos from Sabah arrived in Mindanao over the weekend after they were deported by Malaysian authorities there.
Most of the 289 were women and children, according to a report on dzBB radio early Monday.
But the report quoted local social welfare officers as saying the deportation was not related to the deadly clashes last weekend between Malaysian security forces and followers of Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram III.
Last Friday, a violent clash broke out between Kiram's followers and Malaysian forces, which at the time had been locked in a standoff for three weeks.
At least 12 Filipinos and two Malaysian commandos were killed in Friday's clash.
But more clashes between Kiram's followers and Malaysian forces broke out Saturday.
Malaysia's Bernama news agency said at least six Malaysian policemen and six Kiram followers were killed in the weekend clashes. —KG, GMA News
