DFA confirms abduction of Pinay in Sabah

The Department of Foreign Affairs on Thursday confirmed that a Filipina was abducted by armed men at a resort in Semporna off Malaysian-controlled Sabah Wednesday night.

Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose declined to identify the victim.

Citing a report from the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Jose said the Filipina and a Chinese national were seized by criminal elements at the Singamata Resort near Semporna, Sabah, around 10:30 pm.

“The embassy’s police attache immediately alerted Philippine police authorities in nearby areas for possible interdiction, in the event the perpetrators and their victims were headed their way,” Jose said in a statement.

Philippine authorities, particularly police maritime units and anti-kidnapping operatives, he said, “are actively and closely coordinating with their counterparts in exchanging information and in working towards the speedy resolution of the case.”

“We join the authorities in the desire for a speedy resolution of the case and the safe return of the victims to their families,” he said.  Michaela del Callar/RSJ, GMA News
