Remains of Pinoy killed in Honduras to be repatriated April 19

The remains of the Filipino seaman who was killed in Honduras earlier this month will be repatriated on April 19, according to Overseas Workers Welfare Administration chief Carmelita Dimzon.

The body of 27-year-old Jaycob Escobedo Baban is scheduled to arrive via United Air flight UA183 at 9:10 p.m.

There will be a connecting flight to the OFW’s hometown in Bicol the next day, Dimzon said.

Dimzon has dispatched a Team from OWWA Welfare Office in Region V to visit  the family of the seafarer. The department will also provide psycho-social counseling to the family members.

Gaban, who was from Sorsogon, Bicol, and was employed as an assistant cook onboard the Norwegian Pearl, was shot dead by a robber after he refused to give his iPad during a port call on the island of Roatan last April 7.

Gaban, who left the country last October 2013, is survived by his wife and his daughter. His wife was reportedly seven months pregnant.

The perpetrator was already arrested and is now in custody of the national police and special forces in Honduras.

Dimzon said OWWA is ready to release the death and burial benefits due the seafarer's family plus scholarship and livelihood grant to one of the children and the spouse, respectively. — KBK, GMA News
