Fake cops accused of abducting, raping Pinay in 2013 face UAE court

Two Pakistani men posing as policemen faced a United Arab Emirates court on Tuesday over charges they abducted and raped a Filipina housemaid in a minibus in 2013.

Both men aged 28 and 36 pleaded not guilty before the Dubai Court of First Instance presiding judge Mohammad Jamal on Tuesday, UAE news site Gulf News reported.

The court will appoint two lawyers to defend the two. It will reconvene on June 24.

Prosecutors had charged the two Pakistanis with kidnap, rape and impersonation, and for stealing Dh660, a camera, and mobile phone.

Investigators said the two allegedly posed as policemen and forced the Filipina, 29, and her Indian boyfriend to get into a minibus outside Al Safa Park in November 2013.

According to prosecutors, the two threw the boyfriend out of the minibus then took turns raping the woman.

But the two claimed the couple forgot their belongings in the minibus.

Earlier, the Filipina told prosecutors the incident happened around 3 p.m., after she attended a party in Al Riqqa.

She said her boyfriend asked her to meet him in Al Safa Park and she agreed so he could return Dh1,500 he owed her.

The Filipina said they saw the two defendants watching them as they entered the park, but did not pay attention at first.

But once they left the park, the men stopped them outside the gate, claiming to be police and threatening to take them to the police station.

She said the two suspects made her and her boyfriend board a "small bus" and they drove for a while before they took their mobile phones and wallets.

"They had a heated argument with my boyfriend and threw him out of the bus. They continued driving. One of them forced me to allow him to have sex with me in order not to be taken to the police station. His accomplice also did the same,” she said.

Once she returned to her sponsor's house, the Filipina reported the incident to the police. The boyfriend confirmed her statement. She identified the two after police arrested them.  Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
