TFC Livestreams Canadian PM Harper's Community Event for PNoy, Filipinos
May 20, 2015 (Redwood City,California) - Firm in its commitment to connect the global Filipino community and also bring the most relevant news coverages, ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel (TFC) in North America brought to thousands of viewers the livestream of the community event for Filipinos honoring Philippine President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III during his visit to Canada earlier this May.

The event, hosted by Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and held at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto, Canada, was seen live on TFC.tv, TFC on IPTV and BalitangAmerica.tv last May 8.  At this event, Prime Minister Harper paid tribute to the tremendous contributions the Filipino community continues to make to Canada, and the importance of the strong people-to-people ties to the Canada-Philippines bilateral partnership. President Aquino, addressing the gathering mainly in the Filipino language, reiterated his gratitude to the government of Canada for its hospitality and generosity not only to him and his delegation throughout his visit but to the thousands of Filipinos working and living in the country. He also praised British Columbia Premier Christy Clark for her efforts to help the Filipino community in the province, citing the recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding Concerning Cooperation in Human Resource Deployment and Development.

The three-day state visit, from May 7 to May 9, 2015, which included stops in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver, was President Aquino’s first to Canada and the first by a Filipino president since 1997.  On the way to Canada, President Aquino made a stop in Chicago where he met the Mayor, business leaders and the Filipino community. His entire visit was covered by the ABS-CBN-TFC News team of Ces Drilon, Paul Henson, Connie Macatula De Leon, Vanessa Merjudio, Veronica Silva and Marieton Pacheco. The on-site livestreaming was led by Rosary Escano of the TFC Canada office with Filbert Wong, working with the TFC.tv, Content, Engineering, Traffic, News, Marketing Communications and PR teams of the TFC US and Manila offices.

The livestreaming by TFC of this community event recalls the historic live town hall forum of President Aquino with global Filipinos in 2010 through the facilities of TFC at ABS-CBN International’s studio in Redwood Shores.  Hosted by Balitang America’s Gel Santos-Relos, then North America News Bureau chief (now Senior Vice President and Head of ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs) Ging Reyes, and then Adobo Nation host and now ANC news anchor Karmina Constantino, the program was aired live globally on ANC (ABS-CBN News Channel) and gave overseas Filipinos an opportunity to address their concerns directly to President Aquino.

"TFC in North America will continue to bring live news events that have significant impact to Filipinos in the region and around the world and that also provide opportunities for them to connect with the homeland, whether through government or national leadership in this case, or even through philanthrophy and emergency assistance like when we did a live telethon for typhoon Haiyan victims in 2013," said ABS-CBN North America Managing Director Olivia De Jesus. "This is an integral part of TFC's service to the Filipino worldwide."
