House Speaker hopes for OFW Department bill passage by year's end


House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano on Saturday said that the Department of Overseas Filipino Workers bill, a priority bill for President Rodrigo Duterte, could be passed before the year ended.
For now, the  Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Foreign Affairs, and Department of Social Welfare and Development were the departments tasked with protecting OFWS, Cayetano said in an ambush interview.
Cayetano, for his part, reminded OFWs to be careful in choosing their employers.
“[T]ayo ay nakikiusap sa mga kababayan natin na nag-apply ng trabaho siguraduhin niyo na accredited talaga at hindi manloloko ang inyong recruiter,” Cayetano said. 
"Alam [ko] kapit sa patalim dahil hirap ang pamilya and then kung puwede iwasan na natin yung mga lugar na kung saan maraming pang-aabuso kasi marami namang mga lugar na very safe naman ang ating mga OFWs,” he added. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
