DepEd most trusted gov’t agency, DSWD best performing - OCTA survey --- By GMA Integrated News

The Department of Education (DepEd) was named the most trusted government agency, while the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) was considered best performing by a recent survey by OCTA Research. According to a recent Tugon ng Masa survey for the fourth quarter of 2023, the Education Department scored an 84% trust rating, a 5% jump from the 79% rating from the third quarter which it also topped as the most trusted agency. DepEd was followed closely by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) at 83%, DSWD at 82%, the Department of Health (DOH) at 80% and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) at 75%. The five aforementioned agencies were the same ones to have topped the list of publicly trusted government agencies from the third quarter, and were also the same top-performing agencies with DSWD garnering the highest score at 86%. Similar to the previous survey, higher trust and performance ratings for government offices were recorded in the Visayas and Mindanao. Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) received the lowest trust ratings with 19% and 16%, respectively. The DTI also has the lowest dissatisfaction rating among the agencies, with 22%, followed by the Department of Transportation at 16%. The data for the current survey was gathered via face-to-face interviews of over 1,200 respondents aged 18 and above from Dec.10 to 14, 2023, with a ±3% margin of error at a 85% confidence level.—Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News

The Israel-Hamas war raging in Gaza entered its fourth month on Sunday as the army again pounded the besieged Palestinian territory and US top diplomat Antony Blinken was back in the region seeking to avoid a wider escalation. Israeli airstrikes overnight and early Sunday killed at least 64 people in the Hamas-run Palestinian territory, said its health ministry. It said two journalists were killed when their car was struck.
