NEW YORK CITY — The Philippine Consulate here is checking if Filipinos were affected in a shooting incident that took place on a subway station in the Bronx. One person was killed and five others were wounded after a suspect opened fire at the Mount Eden Avenue Subway Station during afternoon rush hour on Monday (US time). According to Assistance to Nationals supervising officer Vice Consul Paolo Marco Mapula, they have not received reports indicating Filipino casualties. "The police do not share this information, but we have not received any news that any Filipino was involved," Mapula told GMA Integrated News in a text Message. The shooting perpetrated by a still unidentified suspect occurred on the platform of the southbound station on Mount Eden Avenue. New York Police Department Transit chief Michael Kemper reported that two women and four men were shot. Investigators are examining security camera footage to identify the suspect. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) are assisting in the investigation to apprehend the perpetrator. A manhunt has been launched by the New York Police Department to locate the suspect — or suspects — responsible for the shooting. The Philippine Consulate General's Office is urging anyone with information regarding Filipinos possibly affected by the incident to come forward and report to the authorities. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
