Thousands of Filipinos affected by heavy snow in Alaska ---VAL, GMA Integrated News

According to the National Weather Service, over 100 inches of snow have blanketed a large part of Anchorage, where many Filipinos reside. The National Weather Station in Anchorage, Alaska, meanwhile, expects more snowfall in the coming days as it warns the public about the intense cold. In an interview with GMA Integrated News, Dale Ebcas, a teacher and the current President of the United Federation of Filipino American Educators in Alaska, said that they are being extra cautious due to the extreme cold, and they take extra care whenever they leave their homes. Ebcas also sent photos and videos to GMA Integrated News that show thick snow covering several homes and vehicles. There are around 200 Filipino teachers teaching in Alaska, while more than 25,000 Filipinos and Filipino-Americans reside there, according to the United States Census Bureau. The Philippine Consulate in San Francisco, California is monitoring the situation of Filipinos in Alaska which falls under its jurisdiction. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
