Population advocates calls to support QC. Ordinance on reproductive health:

“The Quezon City government ‘s move to further enhance its health services to its constituents is deeply laudable especial the city is now geared in establishing itself as the new business capital of the country”

This was remark given by Benjamin De Leon, President, The Forum for Family Planning in its regular media forum Usapang PopDev (Population Development) at Anabels Restaurant in Quezon City in support of the proposed ordinance establishing a population and reproductive health management policy authored by Councilor Joseph Juico of the First District of Quezon City.

De Leon stressed that “ Councilor Juico’s brave move in authoring such ordinance is a confirmation of being a true public servant putting in first priority the health and welfare of the people not only in his district but of the whole Quezon City.

Statistic show that the Quezon City over ten year period from 1996-2006, maternal death has significantly decreased under the leadership of Mayor Sonny Belmonte, Belmonte Has allocated P10 million per year to provide maternal health care and services.

The population champion furthered, “we hope there would not be much objections to this move of the local government since the services provided to the people is existing already. Councilor Juico and his companions radical approach in creating such policy is to merely see the people enjoying the health benefits even beyond their term of office”

“we need such population policy interventions to ensure that the problem of infant and maternal mortality as well as the social and economic dilemma the people are now facing, if not totally solved, would gradually be answered.” De Leon said

If approved, QC will be the 10th LGU to pass such ordinance on reproductive health the first was Aurora Province, followed by Paracelis and Sagada, Mountain Province, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat, Ubay, Bohol, Carmen, Ifugao and Olongapo City.

“we and the rest of the population community fully support Councilor Juico and the Quezon City government in its current initiative to further improved its health services to its constituents due to the problem of ballooning population.” De Leon said
