US food outlets in KL recruiting Pinoy waiters

Representatives of a Malaysian recruitment agency are in the country to screen applicants for two international restaurant chains in Malaysia.

Chasewood Resources, Sbn. Bhd has partnered with Jerphi Overseas and Trading Corp. in Manila to recruit 100 waiters for deployment to Malaysia, according to Emmanuel Geslani, consultant of JOTC.

The recruits will work with the Malaysian franchises of Bubba Gump and TGI Friday’s, two prominent American food chains that also have stores in the Philippines.

Geslani said another Malaysian job placement company, Job Seeker Sbn. Bhd placed a job order with Jerphi for male cashiers to work in a new mall in Kuala Lumpur .

According to him, operators of the American food chains prefer to hire Filipinos not only because of their similar physical features with Malaysians but also because they are hardworking.

Bubba Gump opened its first branch in the Philippines at Greenbelt 3. It also has branches at SM North’s The Block and at the Trinoma Mall in Quezon City.

The first Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant and Market opened in 1996 on Cannery Row in Monterey, California. It has since grown to include many notable locations throughout the United States and in Mexico, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia and the Philippines.

The first T.G.I. Friday’s restaurant opened in 1965 in New York City at the corner of First Avenue and 63rd Street. T.G.I. Friday’s on Manhattan’s upper East Side that had total revenues of $1 million on its first year. Its second branch was opened in 1970 in Memphis, Tennessee.

Geslani said the Kuala Lumpur branch of TGI Friday’s recruited more than 100 waiters from the Philippines early last year.

Those interested to work for Bubba Gump and TGI Friday’s branches in Malaysia may apply at the offices of Jerphi at Suite 219 , Aurora Plaza in Ermita, Manila or send an email to admin@jerphi.com. - Fidel Jimenez, GMANews.TV
